Death Cafe

On March 17, 2023, the Olds & District Hospice Society hosted its first-ever "Wills & Estates" Presentation by Dan McPherson of Elevator Law. This informative session was offered free of charge and attracted twenty-nine participants from Olds and the surrounding area. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about important financial and legal aspects related to end-of-life planning, while also enjoying a delicious lunch.

In addition to the presentation, the hospice society organized another significant event that afternoon—a Death Café. This unique gathering provided a safe and intentional space for conversations about loss and grief. Twelve individuals participated in the Death Café, engaging in discussions that were facilitated by the hospice society. To add a touch of comfort, an exquisite chocolate cake was served alongside coffee and tea, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Thoughtful conversation starters were provided to help guide the discussions and encourage meaningful exchanges.

The Olds & District Hospice Society received overwhelmingly positive feedback from both events, recognizing the clear benefit they brought to the community as a whole. The society acknowledged the importance of addressing financial preparation for end-of-life matters, as well as providing a supportive environment for individuals to process and grieve their losses. Consequently, they have decided to offer the same opportunity again on Saturday, March 16, 2024. By doing so, they aim to continue serving their community by providing valuable resources and fostering compassionate connections during difficult times.
