2025 Hike recap
Hike for Hospice 2025:
Community, Compassion, and Courage in Challenging Times
This year’s Hike for Hospice looked a little different—with just over 100 participants between Olds and Didsbury, our turnout was lower than in previous years. Didsbury welcomed 20 committed walkers, while the Olds event brought together a small but mighty group of 75. And while our numbers were down, the energy on the ground was anything but—connection, compassion, and community spirit were felt in every step.
In today’s uncertain economic climate—marked by rising costs, new tariffs, and a changing federal landscape—we know that many organizations and individuals are facing hard decisions.
Like others, we too have felt the impact. We also recognize that our choice to support clients who request Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) within our hospice suites may not align with everyone’s beliefs. As an organization rooted in dignity and compassion, we respect each individual's right to choose how they live and how they die. It is not our place to judge, but rather to walk alongside those we serve with empathy and integrity. Our focus remains on providing exceptional palliative care and compassionate support to all we serve.
Despite the challenges, this year’s event was a testament to resilience and generosity. In fact, we had more local business sponsors than ever before—Sim’s Furniture, Big Horn Electric and Controls Ltd., Peat’s Prime Pharmacy, the Women’s Guild of Cremona, Season’s Encore, and Buster’s Pizza. With additional donations still coming in, we are projected to raise close to $22,000—just shy of our goal, but a powerful result in a tough year.
A special congratulations goes out to Jim Stone & Friends, who raised over $4,000, making them our top individual fundraising team.
Adding a lighthearted touch, our May 4 event embraced a Star Wars theme—“May the 4th be with you!”—and the atmosphere was electric. Darci Miller (Olds) and Jazzercise Didsbury led our warm-ups with contagious energy, while Mayor Judy Dahl and other dignitaries joined in to show their support.
Behind the scenes, over 10 dedicated volunteers from the Mountain View Hospice Society worked tirelessly to ensure the event ran smoothly. Their commitment is what makes events like these possible.
After the hike, walkers enjoyed a warm meal—courtesy of Daphne’s Market in Didsbury and Buster’s Pizza in Olds—offering time to connect, reflect, and celebrate our shared mission.
As we look back with gratitude, we also look ahead: Join us for our 2025 Golf Classic on June 12, as we continue to raise essential funds for our growing programs in hospice care, grief and bereavement, and volunteer navigation.
